Orlando Jazz Band, Z Street Speakeasy Band blazes their own trail

Z Street Speakeasy Band is preparing for another busy Jazz Band season in Florida and throughout the United States. The husband and wife team of Mark and Kathy Zauss perform and front the popular "Swing Band that Rocks" with their own style and brand of hot jazz and more.
Based out of Orlando Florida, their company Band Source Productions keeps them busy with nine bands that are as unique as their own style.
Their newest endeavour is their "Show Band on Wheels" concept. Always looking for a new an unique way to reach their audiences, Mark and Kathy purchased an antique roadster, tricked it out and added onboard PA speakers. Just before the holidays during Covid, Kathy had the idea of using the antique car for holiday concerts and shows. At a time when gigs were a rarity because of the pandemic, their "Show Band on Wheels" ended up being a wild success to the point they were turning down offers to perform.
"All of the sudden, the phone began to ring. We ended up performing a 22 day show run throughout Florida. We traveled by our RV, and towed our roadster from venue to venue. People needed entertainment, and we delivered. It was wonderful for the audiences, and for us."
The show included Mark and Kathy performing for outdoor concerts, parades, festivals. "It was really something. We were at the point where we couldn't accept any more work." Mark played trumpet and sang, Kathy sang and tapped danced. Together, they lifted everyone's spirits during the pandemic. "It was pure joy, giving back to our audiences. A win win for everyone." Kathy adds.
Now, they're adding their "Show Band on Wheels" to include other holidays: July 4th, Mardi Gras as well as other theme 20's, and 50s shows, as well as offering their car, Rosebud for Gatsby and 20s theme events, parked in front of the venue.

Z Street Speakeasy Band has been playing many Roaring 20s, Gatsby and Speakeasy themed gigs so far in 2020. The band specializes in hot jazz, 1920s, and 40s swing but unlike other vintage bands, they can transition into more contemporary music as the night goes on. With both male and female vocals the high energy band keeps the dance floor packed and it's no surprise that they get rebooked year after year from the same clients. Band leader Mark says, "Most of our clients rebook us because we entertain the audience, we draw them in, our presentation is professional, and we're on time, and as always, literally leave them wanting more. Z Street Speakeasy band leader and trumpet player/vocalist Mark, and avocalist Kathy have extensive experience in music. The Z Street Speakeasy Band has gone Gatsby with has had a busy summer performing as a Gatsby Band, and as 20s Band in Orlando, Florida and throughout the United States. The band performs vintage Jazz, 20's, 30's and 40's jazz, Sinatra and Swing but unlike many vintage bands, the Z Street Speakeasy Band has the ability to transition into other genres of music.
"We find after a set or two of vintage music, the guests like to expand into more contemporary hits to pack the dance floor" bandleader Mark says. With both male and female vocalists, horns, and rhythm section, the band is available from 3 to 8 pieces. Fully insured, with state of the art sound system, stage lights, and dance floor lighting, vintage zoot suits and flapper gown, the band is known for it's high energy entertainment and musical talent. "This has been a record season for us as well as 2020. The roaring 20's are roaring for us, and we're thrilled."

The Z Street Speakeasy Band is a Florida band that serves Orlando, Tampa, Sarasota and beyond. Band leader Mark is here to guide you through your Gatsby, Speakeasy,1940's, Hollywood Oscars theme event from the very beginning until the last note is played. Here are just a few of the questions that Mark gets asked when new clients inquire about hiring the band, along with his responses, which should help you make a sound decision on hiring entertainment for your private party, corporate event or charity gala.

Question:   Is it necessary that the band I hire carry insurance?
Answer:  Absolutely! Any reputable band should carry multi million dollar liability insurance, as most venues require it before the band can perform at the venue. If the band you are looking to hire can't produce a copy of their Liability insurance well before the event, they may not be allowed to perform at the venue, as most venues require it. The Z Street Speakeasy Band carries multi million dollar liability insurance.

Question:  Where are you located? I see other bands listed on Google that say they are in Florida, but when I contact them, they tell me they are located in another state or another Country.
Answer:  We are residents of Orlando Florida. We live in Orlando, and our musicians are professional musicians at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Orlando is our home base.

Question:   Why do some bands list themselves on Google as being located in Orlando, but they are actually in another State or Country? Sometimes, heir website doesn't say where they are located at all. It's confusing.
Answer:  That's a good question. Many out of state bands, as well as bands located outside of the United State may fly only the band leader into Florida, and then the bandleader will hire local "pick up musicians" (meaning musicians that aren't members of their band; many whom they may have never met or heard before) to perform at their event on the fly. This isn’t a good idea. The band should be a group of musicians that have been playing together on a continual basis. Not random players hired to perform with the band for the first time.  The Z Street Speakeasy Band is a group of band members that have been working together for years. They are established team members that are an integral part of the Z Street Gatsby Band family. If we do an out of State gig, the whole band goes with us. We do not use pick up musicians. When inquiring about a band, it's good to know what City, State and Country that they are located in. It should State that clearly on their website.

Question: When I was researching bands to hire, many of them wanted to charge me additional fees for stage lighting, or sound equipment. That seems unfair.
Answer:  You are absolutely correct. It is unfair. Be very wary of bands that charge you additional fees for sound or lighting. Reputable bands provide their own sounds and lights. This is a given. The Z Street Band provides Sound, stage lighting, dance floor lighting, and a dedicated microphone for guests for announcements. If a band tries to "upsell you on sound and lights", that is initially a junk fee. A band's responsibility is to provide the client with the full package of sound, lights, and costuming. There should be no additional fees, as the band should never charge a client for something the band is responsible for providing. However, many clients choose to use an independent sound company for a large scale event instead of our equipment, which is fine too. Large scale events may require additional AV, sound and lighting that an independent sound company would provide. The Z Street Speakeasy Band has a great relationship with professional sound companies throughout Florida as well as the United States.

The Z Street Speakeasy Band is one of Florida's most unique and fun musical acts to hit the Florida special events market. Based out of Orlando, the team of musicians play traditional music from the 20's, 30's and 40's, but have the unique ability to launch into other contemporary genres of music as well. The group is led by trumpet player and band leader, Mark, who hold BA in music as well as a Masters of Art in Mental Health Counseling from Rollins College. Currently, he is a full time musician heading up his musical groups along with his wife, Kathy who is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy majoring in vocal music and theatre. Kathy continued her education at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. After years of working in entertainment, the two teamed up and began their venture together with their vintage bands. They surround themselves with some of the areas best musicians, and together, they carved a niche in Speakeasy style music. Each event and concert is different, and through the thousands of gigs they've performed, they never tire of it. Mark and Kathy insist that their success is due to the fact that they perform not for themselves, but for the audience. "It's all about the client and their guests." Mark says. "Our job is to give the audience what they want. We go where they want us to go, musically. It makes us happy to see a packed dance floor. Whether the client wants us to stay in the vintage theme all night, or launch into "Uptown Funk", it all good. We want everyone to have a great time." And the good times keep coming, as the band gets repeat bookings year after year.
